Dank Burrito was born out of the idea that when it comes to making great food, flavor is a better guide than tradition. Nobody needs another bland burrito joint serving the same basic flavors
How do we do it? It’s all in the name.
So fresh it hurts. We prep our ingredients by hand every day, and we’ve got the callouses to prove it. From fermenting our kimchi to slow-roasting our pork bellies, it’s all made from scratch.
We’re not fast-good guys, we're chefs at our roots. We shun the shortcuts and embrace the hustle and craft of a real kitchen, using fine-dining techniques to design every item on the menu. We don't know how to do it any other way.
We take some of the most addicting street food flavors from around the world and layer them in potent, tortilla-wrapped packages we call “flavor bombs.” If they don’t blow up your taste buds, we’re not doing it right.
Our Story
Dank Burrito began as a passion project by Chef Clarke Merrell. Clarke had been in restaurants his whole life, starting with his dad’s while growing up in Emerald Isle, NC and then his own white tablecloth restaurant he opened at age 28.
After several successful years, he craved something new and wildly different. As a lover of global street food, Clarke wanted to remix some of his favorites and serve them as ‘flavor bombs’ — something burritos and tacos do best.
While the approach to cuisine was incendiary, Clarke was serious about the preparation. Only the best ingredients and as made-from-scratch as humanly possible. To capture this vision as well as our urban-psychedelic-graffiti-90’s-hip-hop vibe, we adopted the term ‘dank’—modern slang for ‘high quality’ and ‘craveable’.
Dank Burrito launched as a food truck in 2014, quickly winning National Food Truck Rookie of the Year. An instant success, we opened our first brick-and-mortar location in Morehead City in 2015.
Today, we serve our explosive flavors to loyal Danksters and new converts by the thousands. While the Dank Nation thrives and expands, we keep the same stubborn commitment to excellence and creativity that inspired our very first burrito. Classic but never basic, irreverent, never casual, Dank Burrito is the irresistible favorite you never saw coming.
